...the way it all started...

Stefan Mahlknecht started at a high level, as he was born in Deutschnofen at an altitude of 1360 m where he also grew up with his 5 siblings. The location of his home town is as impressive as its musical groups which had great influence on his musical development.

As a boy he already played in the Brass Band of Deutschnofen. Later on he became member of Deutschnofen Church Choir Orchestra and different instrumental groups.

Hans Simmerle, the choirmaster, and Paul Bozzetta, his first trombone teacher, initiated his musical development and made him study music at Bozen Academy of music. Professor Iginio Ferrari made him a really good musician.

After his music study Stefan Mahlknecht still got valuable hints from reknown trombonists, such as Hansjörg Profanter (by the way from South Tyrol too).

As orchestra musician Stefan is established in Haydn Orchestra of Bozen and Trient, at Bozen theatre and at Windkraft, an orchestra for new music.

...und apart Bozen Brass?

When Stefan Mahlknecht is not busy with Bozen Brass you can probably find him at the institute for musical education, where he has been music teacher for trombone and other brass instruments since 1990.

From time to time he also plays with Haydn Orchestra, at Bozen theatre and at Windkraft.

If he has enough time he also returns to the place where his musical career started and plays a concert with Brass Band Deutschnofen.

...what people say...

"The sound of brass musicians already inspired me when I was a child and I will probably never stop loving it", Stefan Mahlknecht once said in an interview.

Nevertheless he also likes skiing and activities in the local mountains as you can see from the images on the right.

If you want to cook his favourite dish, you only have to go outdoors in spring. He enjoys a salad made of dandelion, which is called "Zigori" in South Tyrol.
